A leap of faith
Led to a church committed to Growing in Greater faith.
Jesus had placed a dream in David’s heart when he was 21 years old— for a Spirit-filled and Spirit-led church in his homes state of New Jersey. David and Faith were college sweethearts who met at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He wanted to be a physical therapist. She wanted to be a missionary. They got married and God led them on an amazing adventure that they never could have imagined!
They each attained an M.Div, became ordained as pastors, watched their four children grow, started a non-profit organization to activate Asian American women, became itinerant speakers, and so on. In 2019, God brought that college student’s dream back to the surface and began to instill in them a particular vision for a church— one that was fearless and free.
As they began this journey, David and Faith realized that they had their work cut out for them after searching on Google, “How to start a church.” Nevertheless, God met them at every step of the journey.
While they prayed into this, they wondered what it would look like if Jesus Himself had walked through Northern New Jersey. They believed he would embrace and walk alongside a community filled with kids, foster families, single mothers, immigrant families, and all others who feel broken + burdened. God continued to reveal His heart to David and Faith as they began to build a church that could reach, champion, and disciple the marginalized. In January 2020, they left the comforts and predictability of their previous ministry positions to be a family on mission; seeking to build a church that would transform its community.
Our church started as a dream in the heart of a college student.
We went to the movies and God started to do a thing.
With a clear vision and dream, but no team and very few resources, building a church seemed nearly impossible. While Mosaic was still in the pre-launch days, Dave prayed a very specific prayer— that we wouldn’t be a church with a lot of people, but that we would be one that has a few dedicated people to do the work of many. The next preview service after that prayer was prayed, God sent attendees that would become a majority of the Mosaic launch team. At every moment, He was providing.
We officially launched Mosaic Covenant Church of NJ in February of 2022! In the early days of our church, we met at the AMC in the Garden State Plaza— Theaters 15 & 16 became our sanctuaries; it was there that we saw the Holy Spirit move so sweetly in our midst. The stories we have of these days are so powerful and ones that we look back on fondly. Despite days that seemed to start at the crack of dawn, having access to only TWO outlets per theater, and moving road cases as far as what seemed like a mile from the parking lot, we were filled with so much joy. It was so clear that God was bringing people together, who were once strangers, and blessing us as we grew as a community.
In November 2022, we began services a few minutes down the road at Eastbrook Middle School. Sunday services have been happening there ever since!
God is still authoring stories of Greater Faith here in New Jersey.
In the last few years since beginning our church, we have seen the Holy Spirit move in our midst and open hearts— transforming lives, bringing healing, strengthening faith.
We have seen Mosaic Kids learn more about Jesus in a fun, engaging environment.
We have seen our Mosaic Youth take steps further into their journey of faith and encounter God.
We have gathered together to pray and have seen miracles happen before our eyes.
Everyday, we are learning and growing together as a church.
We believe that God has immeasurably more in store for our region that we could even ask or imagine. Standing from a place of victory and authority, our church actively prays for those in Northern NJ and particularly those who walk through our doors; that God’s presence would be felt even as they drive onto the campus.
Our heart and our hope is that we would be a church where anyone can experience the presence of God and walk in a greater faith than the day before.
